"The 2017 Fonbadet is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, aged for 18 months in French oak, 40% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with expressive Flack Forest cake, blueberry coulis and redcurrant jelly scents backed up by suggestions of rosehip tea, forest floor, potpourri and mossy tree bark. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegant, juicy and refreshing, with bags of nuanced black and red berry flavors and a perfumed finish. Yum!"

Château Fonbadet has been owned by the Peyronie family for 4 generations. Fonbadet can be translated into fountain of the little valley. The 20-hectares vineyard is planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 2.5% Petit Verdot, and 2.5% Malbec. The terroir is gravel and sand soils. The vines are old, more than 50 years of age, located in 3 enviable areas of Pauillac: 4 hectares are located near Fonbadet (adjoining Chateaux Latour and Pichon Lalande), 3 hectares are near Lynch Bages, and the majority of the vines (13 hectares) are near Mouton and Pontet Canet.
Set on improving upon the achievements of her forefathers, she has wasted no time making improvements to the vineyards and winemaking. In 2014, Pascale Peyronie hired internationally renowned consultant Michel Rolland. With a notable uptick in quality here from 2016 onward, this has to be one of Pauillac’s best value for money wines from the commune!
