    Stephane Otheguy Condrieu 2012

100% Viognier from 0.25 ha plot on a very steep south-facing vineyard in the lieu-dit of Gonon at Malleval where the soil is granitic. Half the wine is aged in vats and half in older barrels and never given any batonnage, it went through a long, 2 years élevage, before bottling in September 2019.

On the nose you notice zesty pear and stone fruits, the palate is supple with an elegant body, and there’s a teasing, alluring quality on the finish which builds and builds with the granitic terroir playing its hand. It is well-balanced and at ease in its youth with just 10mg/l of sulphur added, showing a rare precision and clarity of fruit, a natural white wine of class and complexity.

A fervent supporter of organic farming, Stéphane Othéguy is a winegrower in the prestigious appellations of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph. His estate is intended for polyculture: among its 3 hectares of vines, there are 5 hectares of fruit trees, 5 ha of woods and 3 ha of meadows. Its wines are natural, low in sulfur and refined over the years. Its extremely rare Condrieu is highly sought after, as are its wines made from Serine (a local variety of Syrah).
