Biurko Gorri means ‘from two red rivers” in Basque language.

The winery is located in Bargota, a small village that lies at the base of the Yoar Sierra (Sierra de Cantabria) at an altitude of a 600 metres. The winery, surrounded by family vineyards and olive groves, was built on a hill overlooking the local countryside and offers excellent views of the surrounding area.

The Llorens family committed itself to a long-term project where they would process and market the grapes from their own vineyards by combining the best in state-of-the-art technology and tradition to obtain quality wines and product identification.

It is one of the oldest Organic certified producer in the most renowned wine producing region of Spain, La Rioja, and the only cellar chosen by the European Union to participate in a project focused on the elimination of the sulfurous anhydride SO2, using natural products instead, together with other European universities and institution (TTZ Bremerhaven, Germany, Bonn University, Meyer Gemüsebearbeitung GmbH (Germany); Wageningen University, Frutarom Netherlands BV (The Netherlands) and Campden BRI (United Kingdom).

The wines are produced with the indigenous grapes Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano, this last grape can only be found in La Rioja and represents only a 2% of the total of grapes cultivated in this DO, but is a 20% of the Biurko vines. Is a grape very difficult to harvest and produce, that is why the harvesters say: “Graciano, gracias, no” (Graciano, no thanks). Biurko wines are known to be clean and straight fruity wines.
