    100% Nebbiolo.

Barolo DOCG is made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the rolling hills south of Asti called Langhe. Once harvested grapes are destemmed and gently pressed, keeping the skins intact. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 28-30°C over a period of 8 days. The maceration process takes about 20 days, depending on the vintage, and is carefully managed with delestage and soft punching down.
After the maceration, the racked wine is transferred in oak barrels where the malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine ages for about 20 months in cask and then another 18 months in bottle.

The Stefano barolo colour is garnet red, while the aroma is complex with scents of pot-pourri, red fruits, licorice, white pepper, and graphite. Rich body, smooth, elegant with a very long finish. This wine is perfect to pair with braised beef, game, truffle-flavored dishes, aged cheese. The ideal serving temperature is 18-20°C.

It was in 1933 that Luigi founded his winery in the countryside of the small village of Castel San Pietro Terme, which is in the outskirts of the beautiful city of Bologna, and cultivated his first vines.

Cantine Sgarzi Luigi are fourth generation winemakers who still maintain the passion and drive for wine that characterised their founder Luigi Sgarzi.

The company has been handed down from father to son, and is now owned by Luigi’s dear grandson, Stefano.

Today, all the Sgarzi Family works together at the Winery: Nadia, Stefano’s wife, the son Luigi Leonardo and the two daughters Anna and Francesca.
