The history of Château Ferran dates back to the 18th century when it was owned by Montesquieu before being bought by an old Bordeaux family; the descendants of Joseph Beraud-Sudreau. Since 1999, it is Philippe and Ghislaine Lacoste who direct this vintage. The many renovations of the vineyard and renovation of the cellars undertaken in recent years have been quickly rewarded with many medals and notes from journalists, especially during En Primeurs tastings.

Château Ferran is located on an exceptional terroir, adjoining some of the most famous wines of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The Château Ferran vineyard stretches over 18 hectares of vines planted on slightly gravelly Miocene limestone-clay ridges.

The grape varieties are 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. The work in the vineyard is conducted in the respect of the traditions with disbudding, stripping, thinning, manual harvest parcel by plot and sorting in the vineyard and the vat room. Thus, the best batches are selected for assembly.

Vinification is done in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged in barrels, 35% of which are made from new oak. Château Ferran is the alliance of an exceptional vineyard and a family of enthusiasts.

At the tasting, Château Ferran presents a deep and brilliant ruby color. The nose offers ripe fruits aromas, the mouth is powerful and fleshy, while being elegant with a good minerality shining on the finish.

James Suckling : 91-92. Excellent length and firmness to this wine with fine tannins and a full body. Fresh acidity too.

Decanter by Jane Anson : 16.25/20pts ( 87/100pts ). Firm vibrant purple, violet edging. Modern styling, wild black cherry flavours, smoke stained cedar wood. Smooth silky texture, excellent tannin integration, accomplished, feel the hand of the winemaker.

eRobertParker.com by Neal Martin : 87-89. The Château Ferran 2014 has a ripe and generous bouquet with plenty of lush red cherries and blueberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with well-integrated new
oak, good depth here with sappy blackberry and boysenberry notes, segueing into a structured finish that should mellow by the time of bottling. This is a fine Pessac-Léognan for the vintage.

Vinous by Antonio Galloni : 90/100. Powerful, dense and quite satisfying, bold wine to drink now and over the next few years.
