Château Haut Grelot was born in 1920 from a small farm in the village of “Les Grelots”. My great-grandfather and my grandfather established the estate on the cultivation of vines and livestock. Today, Château Haut Grelot totals 67 hectares (25 ha white and 42 ha red). Céline and I work together to perpetuate the quality of the wines and the image of Château Haut Grelot.

In our vineyard, 2 terroirs predominate: sandy-gravelly on the hillsides bordering the Gironde Estuary and sandy-clayey-loamy on the hillsides further inland. These soils bring fruitiness and power to our red wines; and all the freshness, expression of aromas and delicacy in our white wines. It is striking to see the undulation of our hillsides compared to the rest of the appellation. These exposures are very favorable for a perfect exposure of the grapes and a natural flow.

The region of Blaye benefits from a favorable microclimate where the rate of sunshine is high and an ideal humidity for the maturation of the grapes, thanks to the influence of the Gironde estuary. We always cultivate our vines with more care through precise and reasoned operations. Disbudding, desuckering, stripping, low yields and green harvesting… are essential practices to obtain grapes that ripen as desired. The objective is to spread out the bunches on the vine stock so that they benefit from maximum sunshine and aeration; synonymous with quality for the future wine.

We believe in a balance between innovation and tradition. Although our cellar has state-of-the-art equipment and technology, we remain very attached to traditional grape varieties through the diversity of the terroirs of our vineyard. To express the authenticity of our wines, we take care to preserve the artisanal and natural side of the vinification. We work part of our vineyard in organic farming, which allows us to reason our cultural practices.
